Being chaste
This
week we read about Lazarus and some unknown rich man. (Luke 16:19-31) A self absorbed, an “its all about me” kind of
guy, who even in death, when the chips are really down, is not able to get over
himself. It’s disturbing to see yourself in this character.
Sometimes
we read this gospel reading as being about heaven and hell, but really it is
just a story about who we live for. In this story we are the 5 brothers and
sisters who need to be told to reform our ways. In light of that do we see
others as belonging to God and treat them as such, or do we put ourselves first
and see others as a means for our needs to be met?
