Living a Resurrection Life
This
Sunday is both the Sunday after Ascension and the last Sunday of Easter. This
great 50 days where we immerse ourselves in reminding ourselves again about living
the resurrection is about to end.
As
I have said before, the Incarnation of Jesus – The Word of God made one of us,
and the death and resurrection of Jesus, have from the beginning been
understood as God’s eternal commitment to this world and all who live in it;
that all that seeks to corrupt and bring death is broken and rendered powerless.
When the resurrected and fully human Christ ascends into the Godhead, we know
that this promise is a promise that can be relied on – that God is working to
bring life, peace, justice to all people through the way of Jesus – a way
marked by generosity, mercy, hope. This world is saved through the faithfulness
of God in Jesus.
And
we as the people of God are a big part of how that promise is being fulfilled. We are invited to live resurrection lives, not
sometime in the future, but now. So after a week of weeks listening to all that
John and Luke teach us about resurrection, after listening to Jesus pray for us
before he goes out into the night to be arrested, what is living a resurrection
life for you?
