Some Thoughts about Super Saturday: Get vaccinated!!

This Saturday is Super Saturday: Get vaccinated!!  And I have been asked by the diocese and by Jan Tinetti our local Labour list MP based in Tauranga.to help spread the word. Even if you are already double jabbed, we all have a role to play to get our vaccination rates up to a level up well over 90% for all ethnic and age groups in Aotearoa-New Zealand.

  • Higher vaccination rates mean better we are better able to keep ourselves, all our families- whanau, and all our community safe. Especially the most vulnerable, what ever their age, who have underlying health issues like asthma.

  • Higher vaccination rates are about keeping our hospitals open for all who need medical care. Overseas experience shows us that when hospitals and health care providers are swamped with Covid cases then other people who need medical care struggle to get it, and the outcomes are worse. And this is about keeping doctors and nurses and all who work in these places safe and well, physically and mentally.

  • Higher vaccination rates mean that we can get back to some kind of normal church sooner rather than later.
    Higher vaccination rates mean that Auckland in particular can be let out and start living life a little more normally again. It means that my daughters might be able to come home for Christmas from Auckland. that is not looking likely just at the moment.          

I know some of you have questions and are hesitant. Which is fine. But I encourage you to find good sources of information and get vaccinated.
This vaccination is and will continue to save lives here in Aotearoa and around the world.  Nearly all our current cases in NZ are un-vaccinated people.
This vaccine is way beyond experimental. It has been given to hundreds of millions if not billions of people around the world. It has gone through all the safety tests. It continues to be monitored by authorities around the world. Some wonder why it was approved so quickly - it went faster this time because governments were keen so funded it all and sped up the bureaucracy. The testing process was the same - careful and thorough. The side effects are well known. It will not change your magnetic fields. It is saving lives right now.

So I ask you, if you have not received either of your doses, make this Saturday the day to get it done.

Youth Camp

I went on a youth camp over new years. ( This bit is new) It was overall a good camp. The young people who organised it did a really good job, and I had a good time all in all. While I will go on to question one of the speakers in particular, mostly the others were good. One used Nooma dvd's and another retold bible stories to great affect. But I want to make some comments about it that arise not only out of this event but also other events I have been on. They are observations of what we offer young people which arise out of the question, is what we offer young people at such events the best we can do? Original posting continues... I have to say the music wears me down. It is all about Jesus and me, hardly ever us. And when how to stay on the Christian journey is talked about it is in terms of my devotional life, and never about our life as a church, and even being part of a community. The Way

Here we are in the fifth Sunday of Easter, and we no longer get rousing stories of Jesus resurrection. Instead, we are listening to part of Jesus’ final pep talk to the disciples as they and he prepare for the horrors that lies ahead. And we hear of Stephen being stoned. It somehow seems wrong. And it is also more real. The season of Easter is a time to pay attention to how the risen Christ is among us now and active in our world today. How do our readings help us in this work? There is a lot of confusion in both John and Acts. The disciples are confused by what Jesus is talking about. They are afraid and want straightforward answers. Where is Jesus going and how can they follow? What is the way? And Jesus does not give straightforward answers. And yet so often we read this as if he is.
